Torres outgrapples Hill en route to a decision victory
Tecia Torres is a better grappler than Angela Hill, and that's all that mattered during the opening bout of UFC 188 on Saturday night.
The Tiny Tornado frequently got the better of Hill during the stand-up exchanges and was downright dominant once the fight hit the floor, easily controlling position with heavy top control. Hill played decent defense from her back, though, so, aside from the occasional one-off punch, Torres wasn't able to inflict much damage while mostly hanging out in Hill's half-guard.
Neither woman did much of consequence during the third round, so while they jockeyed for position along the fence, the spirited Mexican crowd booed lustily.
Ugly slog or not, Torres was the better fighter in all positions, and easily took the unanimous decision victory.
The win likely won't make Torres's highlight reel, but it did improve her spotless record to 6-0 (2-0 in the UFC).
This fight is so boring the UFC announcers have gone into, 'Hey remember that other fight that didn't suck? Let's talk about that' mode.
