Jose Aldo doesn't like new Reebok kits: 'We are the Power Rangers'
When the UFC announced an exclusive sponsorship deal with Reebok in the final month of 2014, the decision was met with a mixture confusion and anger, with a dash of acceptance.
Mixed martial arts has long been a sport that allowed fighters to collect their own sponsorships, and although the success of this formula varied from fighter to fighter, a large contingent of the UFC's roster admitted they'd be taking a pay cut under the Zuffa-Reebok deal.
One of the loudest objectors to the partnership was featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo, and it appears his stance hasn't softened much in the months since the announcement.
"It sucks, but what can we do?" Aldo said during a press conference at Nova Uniao, according to MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz. "We know it’s a private company, everybody has their contracts. I don't think it looks good, everyone has their own style. I can't do anything about it, just talk. We have to accept. We are the Power Rangers."
With the Reebok kits making their debut last week at UFC 189, Aldo is willing to reserve judgement until he puts on the gear himself.
"We'll see," he said. When I try it out, I can talk about it."
