VIDEO: Lauzon crushes Gomi in 1st-round stoppage
This looks like the end for the "Fireball Kid."
Legendary PRIDE lightweight Takanori Gomi had absolutely nothing for Joe Lauzon in the main-card curtain-jerker at UFC on Fox 16 on Saturday night, succumbing to strikes at 2:37 of the opening round.
After a brief feeling-out process, Lauzon clipped Gomi and took him down to the canvas. From there, "J-Lau" transitioned to Gomi's back, flattened him out, and started unleashing some heavy ground-and-pound.
Sensing Gomi had endured some massive shots, Lauzon, in a strangely merciful decision, decided to stop the onslaught on his own before referee Herb Dean had a chance to step in.
