Jose Aldo could lose sponsorship deal with Venum
Jose Aldo's decision to stick with Venum may come back to bite him on the wallet.
The UFC featherweight conqueror, who was vocal about his sheer distaste for the UFC's exclusive sponsorship deal with Reebok, turned down an independent contract with the apparel giant in order to keep his sponsorship pact with Venum.
Unfortunately, with Aldo unable to sport his Venum gear inside the Octagon, the company may not renew his contract when it expires in October.
"We have a contract with Aldo until October, and we'll have a conversation to see if it's worth to continue with the sponsorship," Venum’s Andre Vieira told Ag. Fight, according to MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz. "It's really positive for the brand to have Jose Aldo as your cover boy, but do people see that? Does it bring us more visibility? Who gets this information?"
Without the major exposure that comes with a large pay-per-view audience, it might not make fiscal sense for the company to keep cutting Aldo checks.
"It was a different story in the past," Vieira said. "You put your shorts and the whole world would see it. If I gave Jose Aldo 10,000 reais per month, I would get it back in return. Today, to have a third of this return, I have to give Aldo two 2,000 reais and spend more 8,000 in advertisement. It's too much."
