Rousey's mother: Trainer Tarverdyan a 'bad person' and 'terrible coach'

AnnMaria De Mars is not a fan of her daughter's trainer, to put it lightly.

The former world judo champion and mother of Ronda Rousey spoke out in an interview with LatiNation recently, putting Rousey's head coach Edmond Tarverdyan on blast. Among her gripes is that she believes Tarverdyan uses Rousey to bring in new fighters, and that Tarverdyan was slow to give Rosuey attention when she was starting out.

Here's De Mars:

I think Edmond is a terrible coach, and I will say it publicly. I think he's a terrible coach. I think he won the lottery when Ronda walked in there. She was winning before she even met him.
...
She was one of the top athletes in the world when she walked in there, and he wouldn't even give her the time of day for months. Somebody like that is a terrible coach.
...
He's a bad person and people should not go there.

Despite any concerns her mother may have, Rousey has been just fine since joining Glendale Fighting Club as an amateur. She's undefeated at 12-0, is 6-0 in the UFC, has been more or less untouched as the UFC women's bantamweight champion, and has grown into the sport's most popular fighter and crossover star.

For his part, Tarverdyan has admitted he was hesitant to train Rousey when she first arrived at the gym but quickly changed his mind when he saw her fight. He did not respond to requests for comment from ESPN on Tuesday.

Rousey's mother believes the only reason Rousey still trains at Glendale is that she hasn't lost, a sort of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. De Mars has also expressed concern about Rousey's choice of friends in the past, calling them "douche bags."

Rousey recently confirmed that she's in a relationship with Travis Browne, who also trains at Glendale.
