Weidman already on weight for December title defense
Reigning UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman knows that you don't have to get in shape if you stay in shape.
On the verge of his fourth title defense at 185 pounds, Weidman said he could make weight this week if need be. In fact, it sounds like he may be capable of changing divisions entirely.
"I'm more like a 170-pounder," said Weidman to Steve Marrocco of MMAjunkie.com. "I weigh like, 192, 193 (pounds) in the morning. I've got my weight down really low for this one."
Weidman has been sensational in championship wins over Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and Vitor Belfort, but he's slimmed down in anticipation of his Dec. 12 collision with Luke Rockhold. Any criticisms that Weidman's previous conquests were past their "best before date" likely won't apply to Rockhold, another American fighter in his prime.
Even a hearty Thanksgiving dinner won't keep Weidman from keeping his eye on the prize, thanks to help from his friends and family.
"My wife's going to make me a separate meal, so it's not going to be everything I want," said Weidman. "But it's alright.
"I like to be disciplined, and it's sacrifice like that that make everything pay off at the end."
