Conor McGregor's manager denies UFC champ tried to train at Kings MMA
According to UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, Conor McGregor tried to train at Kings MMA in the days leading up to his bout against Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
The newly-minted featherweight overlord's team reportedly reached out to Kings MMA head honcho Rafael Cordeiro in order to get "The Notorious" some time in the famed gym, but Cordeiro denied the request.
Not only were Cordeiro, Werdum, and the rest of the California-based gym unwilling to help McGregor in his quest to topple Aldo, but "Vai Cavalo" went so far as to say the brash Irishman's mere presence might have been hazardous to his health.
"Conor McGregor wanted to train with us there," Werdum said in a media scrum, according to MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz. "No way. Imagine us against Jose Aldo, our friend? We're 100 percent with Aldo, the entire Kings MMA. There was a moment when someone said 'Well, Conor wants to train with you'. I had no answer.
"His manager asked Rafael, and master closed (the door) right away. No way he would train with us here. If he came, it would be to train with us for a few days, and yes, 100 percent, he wouldn't be able to fight. It would be dangerous because we would break him."
Of course, McGregor's manager, Audie Attar, is completely denying the story.
"That is not true," Attar told MMAFighting.com. "Only contact we ever made to Kings was someone from my office had called there to see if Uriah Hall can train there, but no one called us back on Uriah. Never would've or could've called for Conor as he doesn't train with anyone else other than his coach John Kavanagh and his own teammates he brings in. He keeps his circle small, so this is someone making things up and feeding lies to Werdum. Kings is down the street from our offices in Orange County and I have the utmost respect for Rafael and that camp, but this just isn't true."
Ultimately, McGregor didn't need Kings' help, as he quickly dispatched Aldo in a record-shattering 13 seconds to become the undisputed featherweight champion.
