Francisco Trinaldo is peaking at the right time.
The 37-year-old Brazilian lightweight won his fifth straight fight by landing the heavier shots against a resilient Ross Pearson over the course of their three-round fight. Pearson avoided any serious trouble, but found himself backing up more and more as the fight went on.
It was actually Pearson who was the aggressor in the first round. His technical striking kept Trinaldo on his heels, and he was well on his way to taking a 10-9 lead. Trinaldo countered with hard shots and ended the round strong with a frightening slam.
It was the turning point, as Trinaldo poured it on from there, catching Pearson with flurries up close and using his grappling to stay off his back.
Trinaldo's streak continues while Pearson flip flops between wins and losses once again.
