Pyle digs deep for TKO of Spencer
Mike Pyle saved the judges from scoring a close one.
Likely tied at 19 with opponent Sean Spencer heading into the final round of their UFC Fight Night 82 bout, the 40-year-old Pyle found an extra gear to end the fight at the 2:45 mark of the third.
Spencer had great success early with a repeating jab, and he even scored a knockdown with an overhand right. The game plan continued in the second, but Pyle refused to wilt. "Quicksand" scored a knockdown of his own and managed to wade through the volume striking of Spencer to land the harder shots. A late takedown by Pyle locked the match in a dead heat.
The scrappy Pyle gave Spencer all kinds of headaches in the third. An awkward scramble ended in Pyle getting top position, and when they got back to their feet it was difficult for Spencer to regain his preferred striking distance. Pyle swarmed him with a spinning elbow followed by knees against the cage, leading to the TKO finish.
