White dismisses GSP comeback rumor: St-Pierre attending UFC 196 a 'coincidence'
Dana White knew the sight of former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 196 in Las Vegas would spark rumors.
The UFC president explained at the post-fight press conference that St-Pierre was in attendance for no other reason than to watch the fights. He also shot down the suggestion that Conor McGregor could get involved with St-Pierre in some way.
"Trust me, that was a coincidence. There was no plan," White said, according to MMAjunkie. "Some other people were asking tonight whether (McGregor) was going to call out Georges, and that was never the plan."
McGregor suffered an upset loss to Nate Diaz in Saturday's main event, so if the featherweight champion had any intention of challenging St-Pierre, that setback would've put a stop to it.
White was adamant in his stance that St-Pierre hasn't made any concrete statements about fighting again.
"It's still a rumor," White added. "Georges just wanted to come to the fight tonight. Have we been talking to Georges? Yes we have. But who knows? I honestly, right here, right now, don't know if Georges still wants to fight."
