NASCAR announced measures to ensure teams comply with new COVID-19 guidelines ahead of the racing circuit's return from hiatus later this month.
Under the new rules, all team members and personnel on the infield must wear masks and personal protective equipment while also practicing social distancing during races, according to Dustin Long of NBC Sports.
The guidelines also include screening NASCAR team members for symptoms, according to Nick DeGroot of Motorsport.com.
Failure to comply will result in a fine of between $10,000 and $50,000 for those in the Cup Series, according to Long. Xfinity Series teams could be penalized up to $25,000 for violations.
NASCAR will restart its Cup Series season on May 17 at Darlington Raceway, making it the first North American sports league to resume competition amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The race will be run without fans in attendance.
The circuit outlined some other procedures to protect participants from the coronavirus last week.
