Kevin Harvick: "Punk-ass kids like that are exactly the reason why I'm leaving RCR"
With 13 laps remaining in today’s Kroger 200 Truck race, Ty Dillon and Kevin Harvick wrecked, and that was just the beginning of a war of words. Dillon, running 3rd at the time, turned 2nd place Harvick. Not happy about the incident, the 2 drivers bumped trucks under cautions while heading back to pit road. When Harvick stopped on pit road, crew members of Ty Dillon confronted Harvick, and one member throw a sledge hammer at Harvick, while he was still in his car.
Kevin Harvick is currently with Richard Childress Racing (RCR), and is leaving the team after 13 seasons in the Sprint Cup series to join Stewart-Haas Racing. Ty Dillon is the grandson of team owner Richard Childress. When Harvick got out of his car for an interview, he was not impressed with Ty Dillon, or even Ty’s brother Austin Dillon, who is taking over Harvick’s seat at RCR in the Cup series next year.
Even though Harvick has 4 races remaining with RCR this season, and is currently 4th in the Chase, he didn’t hold back words, slamming RCR for their team nepotism. Here’s what Harvick had to say:
“The 3 just dumped me. Exactly the reason why I’m leaving RCR because you’ve got those kids coming up and they’ve got no respect for what they do in this sport and they’ve had everything fed to them with a spoon. So, I cut him slack all day and, you know, he just dive-bombs me in there, dumps me. I’ve got to thank all these Anderson Syrup guys for everything that they do. It’s a shame you’ve got to get taken out by some rich kid like that.”
Later, while leaving the track he said:
"That’s exactly the reason I’m leaving RCR is because you’ve got those punk-ass kids coming up."
And here’s what Ty Dillon had to say:
“He got sideways and then he hit the brakes and tried to brake-check me … just finished him off. So, I can’t believe that happened. That stunk – the wreck part – but to tear up a truck after the race and totally take us out of the race and not to stick around after the race and walk off and not even want to say anything to me. I’m sure he’s tweeting something now about it. So, can’t even face me after. I’m pretty disappointed in the things that just went down. I used to look up to that guy but I guess he doesn’t understand the circumstances of what’s going on. I understand it’s tough racing down there in (turns) one and two at Martinsville. I know we wrecked, but to tear up a truck after the race and act like a punk on the track and on pit road and stop on pit road on my pit stall when my guys were coming out, that was pretty ridiculous. I’m not happy with him. And for him not to stick around, that’s pretty sad, too.”
