Chad Johnston joins Stewart-Haas Racing as Tony Stewart’s crew chief

When Chad Johnston announced that he’d be leaving the No. 56 team earlier this season, he couldn’t exactly announce where he was going until the offseason. Now that the season is over, and personnel change announcements are being made, Chad Johnston can now say that he’s signed on as the new crew chief for Tony Stewart’s No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing team effective December.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to be put with someone like Tony Stewart who is a proven winner, a proven champion,” Johnston told FOX Sports. “Obviously, the expectations are high so I’m looking forward to prove what I can do and prove that I deserve this position.

This means that Steve Addington is out as crew chief for Tony Stewart. No announcement has been made as to where Addington will land next season, but speculation is that he’ll end up at Phoenix Racing’s No. 51 team. Earlier this season it was announced that Rodney Childers will be crew chief for Kevin Harvick’s No. 4 Chevy.
