If you watch NASCAR on FOX’s pre-race show, you’ve become accustom to Michael Waltrip’s grid walk before each race. In his walk, he interviews drivers, crew chiefs and random celebrities that may be at the race.

It’s a hectic scene on pit road before the start of a race. Everybody who’s anybody at the race is on there, from sponsors to executives. Waltrip’s role is to quickly walk down pit road and talk to whomever he chooses.

I’m sure it’s not an easy gig, but the segment has definitely led to some awkward situations with drivers and celebs alike. What happened on pit road on Sunday was just another notch on the awkward belt.

After speaking with driver Greg Biffle, Waltrip quickly walked away saying, “I think I see Donna Summer!” He then broke out into Summer’s song “Last Dance” as he hurried over to her.

“Hey Donna, how are you?” Waltrip asked the woman, who seemed to be pretty confused. “Enjoy the race today, I enjoy your music. You’ve got a great body of work that you’ve put together!” he said as he quickly walked away.

It was a quick moment, except for one thing: Donna Summer died in 2012. The woman he was talking to was a NASCAR fan named Star Walker.

According to TMZ, there were no hard feelings from Walker, who said that she was flattered by the mistake, and is actually a huge Donna Summer fan. See a video of the incident below:
