NASCAR introduces Air Titan 2.0, will reduce track drying time by 25-50%
NASCAR announced their new track drying project, the “Air Titan 2.0” at Martinsville Speeday Friday morning.
The Air Titan 2.0 is a vast improvement to the current Air Titan track drying system. It has more than triple of the blade capacity of the regular Air Titan, and delivers air at a speed of 568 mph.
NASCAR was committed to making their new track drying effort more energy conscious, so it will now be powered by a single Toyota Tundra engine, consuming 78% less fuel per hour. It will also emit 80% less CO2 per hour.
“The first phase of the Air Titan system has been an overwhelming success,” said Gene Stefanyshyn, NASCAR vice president, innovation and racing development. “Based on our experience and learning, the staff at the NASCAR R&D Center has worked tirelessly to develop Air Titan 2.0. We will continue to innovate and develop the technology to further increase its efficiency and sustainability.”
In terms of actual time, NASCAR is hoping to reduce time spent drying the track by 25-50%, depending on atmospheric conditions.
The trucks will be debuted at the track this weekend. NASCAR has sent 8 Air Titan 2.0’s and 4 jet driers. They’ll be deployed out onto the track in 2 groups of 4 trucks at 180 degrees apart to maximize track drying efforts.
