Carl Edwards wins the pole for Saturday night's All-Star Race
When you remove pit road speeds from a qualifying session, it makes for an interesting time. Saturday night’s Sprint-All Star qualifying was nothing short of interesting, with drivers having to make their way down pit road of speeds exceeding 150mph, getting new tires, and then heading out for another lap.
Brian Vickers was the first driver out, and he missed his pit box. Tony Stewart was up next, and also missed his box, overdriving on pit road and suffering damage to his No. 14 Bass Pro Shops Chevy SS. Smoke headed straight to the garage, where he received a new transmission, rear end gear, driveshaft and axle for Saturday night’s race.
But as the night went on, the pit stops became more solid. Drivers began hitting their pit stalls on cue, and laying down incredible speeds. Jimmie Johnson set a new record Saturday night, running the fastest lap ever run on a 1.5-mile speedway.
Kurt Busch, who was qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 a few hours before Sprint All-Star qualifying, received a penalty for having a loose lug nut, and 5 seconds was added on to his total time.
In the end, it was Carl Edwards who was the fastest car. Here’s your starting order for tonight:
