Comcast Xfinity, NASCAR in 'advanced talks' to take over Nationwide Series title
According to a report from Tripp Mickle of SportsBusiness Daily, Comcast’s video service Xfinity is in “advanced talks” with NASCAR to take over the sport’s second-tier series, currently known as the Nationwide Series.
The report states that discussions have been ongoing for several months, and Xfinity appears to be the leading candidate for the sponsorship opportunity.
Nationwide Insurance’s sponsorship of the series comes to an end at the end of this season. NASCAR is reportedly asking for $12-15 million dollars annually in rights fees for title sponsorship of the series.
SportsBusiness Daily reached out to NASCAR, but they declined to comment on the discussions with Comcast Xfinity.
“With regards to the Nationwide Series, we’re speaking to a number of companies in a number of different industries,” NASCAR Chiefs Sales Officer Jim O’Connell told the website.
NASCAR is hoping to reach an agreement with a sponsor by late summer.
