FOX's Steve Byrnes takes medical leave after cancer recurrence
FOX Sports
Veteran NASCAR on FOX on-air personality Steve Byrnes has taken a medical leave of absence, effective immediately, after suffering a recurrence of cancer.
Byrnes, 55, was diagnosed with throat cancer in Aug. 2013. After two chemotherapy sessions and 37 radiation treatments, he announced that was cancer free.
Byrnes made his return to broadcasting at the start of this season, co-hosting NASCAR Race Hub on FOX Sports, as well as doing Truck Series play-by-play.
He’ll take time off to focus on his medical treatment, and to spend time with his family.
FOX Sports says any further updates “will come at the discretion of the (Byrnes) family.”
