Report: NBA owners expected to approve ads on jerseys for 2017-18 season

NBA owners are expected to pass a vote this week in regards to placing advertising on jerseys in time for the 2017-18 season, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Darren Rovell.
The proposal includes a 2.5-by-2.5 inch patch advertisement on the left shoulder of all team jerseys, the report says.
In December, NBA commissioner Adam Silver admitted that the movement towards ads on jerseys - something the league has openly been in favor of - had hit a snag because of concerns that higher-profile teams could benefit from more lucrative sponsorship advertising than smaller-market franchises. However, the proposal now includes a revenue-sharing pool where 50 percent of money from jersey ads would be split among all teams, according to ESPN.

A staple in Europe and Asia, to date none of North America's "Big Four" sports leagues have adopted jersey sponsors.
