Report: Knicks considering David Blatt for head coach
Kurt Rambis' future with the New York Knicks isn't set in stone yet.
Team president Phil Jackson still favors Rambis to shed the interim tag and officially assume the position, but league sources told ESPN's Ian Begley that David Blatt is also in consideration.
Begley notes that Jackson views Blatt favorably and Jackson will do his "due diligence" in canvassing for a permanent candidate.
The 56-year-old Blatt led the Cleveland Cavaliers to The Finals last year and boasts a lifetime record of 83-40 in the NBA, along with a sparkling record internationally. He also played basketball with Knicks general manager Steve Mills.
He does not, however, coach the triangle system, which might prove to be a dealbreaker for Jackson.
Blatt was dismissed in January and hastily replaced by his former assistant Tyronn Lue in a highly publicized fallout. Reports emerged that the players no longer respected Blatt, that he kowtowed to LeBron James, and that he occasionally drew up plays for players who weren't even in the game.
Lue capped off the entire ordeal by promising to coach "better" than Blatt. Nevertheless, Blatt exclaimed he was "proud" of what his Cavaliers accomplished.
The Knicks dismissed Derek Fisher midway through the season after a 23-31 start. Rambis has since led the team to a 9-18 record.
