Kerr denies anyone from Knicks interviewed Luke Walton
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr moved off script from the playoffs at hand Monday to address rumors surrounding assistant Luke Walton. Specifically, Kerr denied multiple reports that the New York Knicks had talked to Walton about their coaching position.
"Nobody from New York has interviewed Luke," Kerr said, according to ESPN's Ethan Strauss.
Kerr's comment contradicts two stories published Sunday by New York reporters - one that the Knicks had met with Walton and another that the 36-year-old was not interested.
For what it's worth, Knicks president Phil Jackson also said Monday via Twitter that the rumors were untrue.
Walton played for Jackson, while the latter was the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. He is suddenly a hot commodity in the coaches-in-waiting market after overseeing the Warriors to a 39-4 record - something he cannot be credited for due to NBA rules - while Kerr was out recovering from back surgery.
