Report: Jackson, Rambis holding triangle seminars for Knicks this week
For the NBA's top franchises, mid-April is when the quest for a championship shifts into high gear. For the New York Knicks, spring is apparently a time to review Phil Jackson's archaic offensive system.
Citing a league source, the New York Daily News' Frank Isola reports that Jackson and head coach Kurt Rambis will run a "triangle seminar" for some Knicks players this week. According to Isola, Jackson and Rambis will use the seminars to watch film with players as part of their continued teaching of the triangle offense that Jackson's championship teams in Chicago and Los Angeles made famous.
Rambis being present at the sessions has to bode well for the longtime Jackson-coaching disciple in his quest to land the Knicks' head coaching job full-time.
After firing Derek Fisher in February, the Knicks went 9-19 under Rambis, who owns a career 65-164 record as an NBA head coach. Still, his belief in the triangle, which Jackson obviously remains committed to, could help his cause.
Since winning 54 games and advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2012-13, New York has gone 86-160 over the last three seasons, and have no first-round pick to show for it this June.
Jackson took over as the team's president in March 2014, signing a reported five-year deal with the franchise he won two championships with as a player.
