NBA rules Irving didn't foul Jackson on final shot of Cavs-Pistons series
The first-round series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons ended with a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer by Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson.
Jackson, whose shot would've won the game for Detroit and sent the series back to Cleveland for Game 5, felt he was fouled on the play by Cavs guard Kyrie Irving. After Sunday's game, he called for referee accountability, saying officials who botch calls should be subject to fines, suspensions, and firings.
Upon review, however, the NBA ruled that the officials were right not to blow the whistle on that final possession.
Here's the breakdown of the play, and the league's ruling, according to Monday's Last Two Minute Report:
At 5.0 seconds
Irving makes incidental contact with Jackson that does not affect his RSBQ (Rhythm, Speed, Balance, Quickness).
At 2.9 seconds
Irving maintains legal guarding position and makes incidental contact with Jackson that does not affect his RSBQ.
At 1.5 seconds
Irving maintains legal guarding position and makes no contact with Jackson as he initially reaches in for the steal. Jackson then initiates contact with Irving as he jumps sideways on his shot attempt.
The report cites only two instances of missed calls in the game's final two minutes. In both cases, Jackson was the offending player who got away with a foul.
