Report: Deron Williams to opt out but wants to return to Dallas

Deron Williams is hoping for a raise after a bounceback season.

The 31-year-old point guard plans to opt out of the remaining $5 million on his contract for 2016-17 to become an unrestricted free agent, sources tell ESPN's Tim MacMaon.

Williams, a Dallas native, latched on with the Dallas Mavericks after getting waived by the Brooklyn Nets. He proceeded to enjoy a strong campaign where he averaged 14.2 points and 5.8 assists in 32.2 minutes per game.

Although he's far past his peak, Williams was a strong contributor for a playoff team, and that should fetch him plenty of interest on the open market. And if the Mavericks were to see fit on a contract, Williams would be happy to run it back.

"I would love to be back," Williams said during exit interviews this week. "This was a great year for me. My family is settled and happy here, so it'd definitely be great to be back."
