The Houston Rockets interviewed San Antonio Spurs assistant Ettore Messina for their head coaching vacancy last weekend, according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.
Word that the Rockets are potentially considering the 56-year-old Italian was first reported Monday by the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen. The same day, former Rockets player Kenny Smith said on his TNT broadcast that he was no longer under consideration for the job.
Messina joined Gregg Popovich's Spurs staff in 2014. Prior to the NBA, he was an enormously successful coach in Europe, winning four Euroleague championships.
