Celtics' Olynyk undergoes surgery on shoulder
The Boston Celtics announced Tuesday that center Kelly Olynyk underwent surgery on his right shoulder, which will keep him out of basketball-related activities for the foreseeable future.
The team did not give a timetable for Olynyk's return, but CSN's A. Sherrod Blakely reports the big man could be sidelined for five months. If true, Olynyk would likely miss the Celtics' training camp, and could miss a portion of the team's preseason contests.
Olynyk will almost certainly miss the Olympic Qualifying Tournament this July, considerably hurting Canada's chances of qualifying for the Summer Games. Olynyk played a big role in last year's third-place finish at the FIBA Americas Championship, averaging 11.9 points and 7.5 rebounds on 60.4 percent shooting.
The 25-year-old managed to play in just 32 minutes during the Celtics' postseason run, collecting two points and four rebounds over four games.
