Cal forward Jaylen Brown will not hire an agent to negotiate his NBA contract, according to sources of The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks.

Yet the reason has nothing to do with a possible return to school, the report states. Brown, a consensus top-5 pick in several mock drafts, will instead only hire an agent to handle an apparel deal - Aaron Goodwin of Goodwin Sports, according to Cleveland.com's Chris Haynes.

The logic appears to be simple. NBA rookie-scale contracts are set figures, so there is little negotiating actually needed. Brown will reportedly consult with the National Basketball Players' Association on his contract, and has been advised by Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, according to The Vertical.

Rookie-scale contracts for players selected in the top five are between $3 million and $5 million per season. By not retaining an agent, Brown could save anywhere between $150,000 and $300,000 over the course of the deal.

Projected as a NBA swingman, the 6-foot-7 suburban Atlanta native averaged 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in his lone season at Cal.
