Varejao 1st player ever to play for both finalists in same season
Can we go ahead and label the upcoming Cleveland Cavaliers-Golden State Warriors NBA Finals matchup the "Anderson Varejao Megabowl"?
The 33-year-old vet is the first player in league history to suit up for both teams squaring off in the championship series in the same season.
It was prior to the trade deadline when Varejao was dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers by the Cavaliers in exchange for a future second-round pick. He was waived shortly thereafter.
Days later, the defending NBA champions signed Varejao for the veteran's minimum to act as frontcourt depth off the bench.
LeBron James and Kevin Love were happy their former teammate landed on a contender the caliber of the Warriors at the time, but when Game 1 gets underway on Thursday evening, all friendships go out the door with the Larry O'Brien Trophy at stake.
Varejao played just under two minutes in a 96-88 victory in Game 7 on Monday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, scoring two points and dishing out two assists with a +5 rating.
