'Be a little selfish': KD won't consult with Westbrook on free agency
Years ago, some said they couldn't co-exist on the same team; still, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook became compatible teammates and close friends.
That doesn't mean Durant will consult Westbrook during his upcoming free agency sweepstakes.
"It's kind of hard to talk to one of my teammates (about the process)," Durant told reporters Wednesday, according to The Oklahoman's Anthony Slater. "Obviously we've been through a lot, we know each other very, very well. It's one of those things where I just need to hear from me, hear what I want and talk to myself on what I need ... Just try and be a little selfish a bit."

Observers can often forget that free-agency decisions are human ones, and beyond the vast sums of money involved, include a commitment to an employer for a long period of time. That Durant would take it seriously and stay true to himself is hardly a novel concept, but he admitted he will ask for advice.
"Obviously I'm going to ask for advice but also I want to make a decision that's best for me. I'm sure at some point me and Russ will sit down and talk. But he's put no pressure on me. He's been great in this whole thing just being my friend, and that's the one thing I needed throughout this year and during this process. Just people being my friend and worry about me as a person."
If Durant returns to the Thunder, Westbrook will be in the same situation as a free agent next summer. So may Durant again, if, as many expect, he only signs a one-year contract.
