Dirk mulls multi-year deal with Mavericks
Dirk Nowitzki might have opted out of his contract, but the German gunner isn't going anyhere.
The 37-year-old's game has remained unblemished despite already logging 18 seasons, and he plans to stay with the Dallas Mavericks for at least a few more years.
"Since I felt great, played decent, I might opt out and sign a two- or three-year deal. That's (probably) the plan for now," Nowitzki told Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday.
Nowitzki put up 18.3 points and 6.5 rebounds as the No. 1 option for the Mavericks in 2015-16 - and that could be considered a down year. The 7-footer remains just as lethal as ever, and even threw in 24-point and a 27-point playoff performances to prove his mettle.
Since he turned down a $8.7-million option for next season, Nowitzki would presumably look for a raise, especially given the rising cap. But then again, given the generosity he's shown Dallas over the years, perhaps Nowitzki re-signs for an even smaller figure to help the Mavericks negotiate more cap room.
Signing a three-year deal would keep Nowitzki on the Mavericks through his age-40 season.
