Report: Grizzlies, Conley agree to biggest contract in NBA history
It took every dollar they could offer, and it ended up being the biggest deal ever signed in the NBA, but Mike Conley is staying put in Memphis.
The Grizzlies and their star point guard agreed to a five-year, $153-million deal Friday, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Conley was the top point guard on the market and was chased by a number of teams. He took a meeting with the Dallas Mavericks who could only offer a four-year deal.
Memphis ponied up with the full five-year maximum, which surpasses the $150-million pact the Portland Trail Blazers awarded Damian Lillard last summer as the biggest deal in NBA history.
It's a hefty price, but the 28-year-old Conley is one of the NBA's best two-way point guards. Even during an injury-plagued campaign, Conley averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.2 assists while shooting 36.3 percent from deep.
The Grizzlies also opened their wallet with a four-year maximum for free agent Chandler Parsons. Together, they join a recovering Marc Gasol and the timeless Zach Randolph as the Grizzlies reload for yet another playoff run.
