Report: Kings don't intend to re-sign Rondo
Rajon Rondo's tenure in Sacramento appears to be over after just one season.
The Kings don't intend on re-signing the unrestricted free-agent point guard, according to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee.
Rondo signed a one-year deal with the Kings last summer, hoping to rebuild some of his value after a disastrous half-season with the Dallas Mavericks. He accomplished that, to an extent. The 30-year-old averaged 11.9 points, six rebounds, 11.7 assists, and two steals, while shooting a career-best 36.5 percent from 3-point range, and finishing third in the NBA with six triple-doubles.
At the same time, Rondo's oft-lackadaisical defense contributed to the Kings' glaring issues at that end of the floor, and they defended better when he was on the bench. He also earned himself a one-game suspension from the league for hurling homophobic slurs at referee Bill Kennedy, who subsequently came out as gay.
Rondo also recently expressed his frustration about the season, in which since-deposed head coach George Karl clashed repeatedly with franchise anchor DeMarcus Cousins.
"There were too many distractions on and off the court," Rondo said. "The organization as a whole, I don't think was together completely. I think as a team you have to want the best for the next man besides you and that wasn't the case with the Sacramento Kings."
