Report: Millsap involved in trade talks
More changes may be afoot in Atlanta.
Hawks power forward Paul Millsap has been involved in trade talks in recent days as the team reshapes its roster, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
Atlanta is hoping to re-sign unrestricted free-agent center Al Horford, and is reportedly looking to clear out cap room. The casualty of that move could be Millsap, who might become a redundancy in a suddenly crowded frontcourt.
The Hawks handed out two $70-million contracts to Kent Bazemore and Dwight Howard on Friday as they locked in their starting center and small forward. Should Horford accept the significant offer put before him by the Hawks, that would leave Millsap as the odd one out.
Millsap might also leave in free agency after the 2016-17 season. He has a player option worth $21 million for the following season, but given that the cap is expected to spike once again, Millsap might test the market.
The 31-year-old, however, remains one of the best two-way players in the league. He averaged 17.1 points, nine rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.7 steals per game last season, and was arguably Atlanta's best player.
