Report: Hawks won't trade Millsap after losing Horford
With Al Horford reportedly agreeing to a four-year deal with the Boston Celtics on Saturday, the Atlanta Hawks will halt trade talks and hang onto power forward Paul Millsap, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reports.
The Hawks were reportedly exploring trades in recent days to help clear out enough space to retain Horford, and were willing to move Millsap and his $20-million salary to make it happen. Atlanta had hoped to build around a frontcourt of Horford and Dwight Howard, leaving Millsap the odd man out.
Instead, Millsap will go into next season as the Hawks' starting power forward, fitting nicely next to Atlanta's newest signing.
In 81 games, Millsap averaged 17.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.7 blocks, serving as one of the game's best two-way players.
The 30-year-old can opt out of his contract following the 2016-17 season, becoming an unrestricted free agent for the third time in his career.
