Report: Tyler Johnson agrees to $50M offer sheet from Nets
Miami Heat restricted free agent Tyler Johnson has agreed to sign a four-year, $50-million offer sheet from the Brooklyn Nets, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
Johnson can sign the offer at the end of the free-agent moratorium. Once he signs, Miami will have three days to match the offer.
The structure of Johnson's deal might make it difficult for the Heat to match, however. Johnson will reportedly earn $5.6 million and $5.8 million in the first two seasons, but that figure spikes to over $18 million and then over $19 million in the final two years of the contract.
The 24-year-old combo guard's rise to prominence is a testament to the Heat's scouting and development staff. Miami signed Johnson as an undrafted free agent two years ago and turned him into a solid backup point guard.
Johnson battled injuries this season and only played 36 games, but he averaged 8.7 points, three rebounds, and 2.2 assists when healthy and shot 38 percent from deep. He profiles as a strong slashing guard who can operate both on and off the ball. Johnson is also a willing defender and a credible passer.
