Report: Owner, Thunder reps waited for Durant decision at Holiday Inn
NBA free agency is a multi-million dollar business complete with private jets and meetings in upscale locations such as The Hamptons.
However, desperate times can call for desperate measures, as key members of the Oklahoma City Thunder apparently found out during their ill-fated attempt to retain Kevin Durant.
Nine Thunder representatives - including owner Clay Bennett, with an estimated net worth of $400 million - were forced to share six hotel rooms at a Long Island Holiday Inn Express after their final pitch to Durant on Sunday night, according to ESPN's Royce Young.
The Thunder staffers met Durant at the mansion he was staying at in the nearby Hamptons, following his meeting with five other teams. Because it was the Fourth of July weekend, and the area is teeming with tourists during summer holidays, there was little in the way of accommodations.
The group ate at T.G.I. Friday's and awaited Durant's fateful call at the hotel, according to Young.
Based on the ESPN account and researching the only Holiday Inn Express location within the reported one mile of The Hamptons, here is a picture of the likely hotel:
