KG now the last active NBA player drafted before 1998
And then there was one.
Now that Tim Duncan's retired, Kevin Garnett is the only active player in the NBA who was drafted before 1998.
Ray Allen and Jermaine O'Neal - who've both been linked to comebacks - were drafted in 1996. While they haven't officially retired, neither has played in the past two seasons.
The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Garnett out of high school fifth overall in 1995.
Ahead of the 2007-08 campaign, Minnesota traded the big man to Boston, where he immediately won a championship as part of the Celtics' "Big Three" that also featured Paul Pierce and Allen, and was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Following six seasons in Beantown, The Big Ticket had a yearlong stint in Brooklyn before returning to Minnesota.
The 2003-04 league MVP is the active leader in games and minutes played, rebounds, and two-point field goals.
Nobody in league history has grabbed more defensive boards than KG. He's also the only player to suit up against both the 72-win Bulls in 1995-96 and the 73-win Warriors this past season.
The 2016-17 campaign will mark the 40-year-old's 22nd professional season. Now in a mentorship role with the up-and-coming T-Wolves, Garnett continues to prove that anything is possible.
