Cavs trade Kaun to 76ers to clear space to sign Andersen
The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded Sasha Kaun and cash considerations to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for the rights to Chukwudiebere Maduabum, the team announced Friday.
Cleveland will also receive a traded player exception in the amount of Kaun's salary.
This cleared the way for the Cavaliers to sign free-agent center Chris "Birdman" Andersen, sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, who reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the franchise.
Philadelphia will reportedly waive Kaun, with the cash considerations being tossed in by Cleveland to make the trade worthwhile for the 76ers.
Kaun, 31, played six-straight years with CSKA Moscow in Russia before signing with the Cavaliers on a reported two-year contract prior to last season, with the second year being a player option.
He totaled just 95 minutes of playing time in 25 appearances during the 2015-16 campaign, averaging 0.9 points and one rebound on 52.9 percent shooting.
Maduabum was the 56th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, who then moved him to the Denver Nuggets later that night. His rights were acquired by Philadelphia in 2015 in a trade to land center JaVale McGee.
The 25-year-old native of Nigeria has played basketball across the globe over the last five years, with his game taking him to Qatar, Estonia, Iceland, Finland, and Mongolia.
