Drummond 'found something that works' to improve free-throw shooting

There seems to be no happy medium with Andre Drummond.

He's the best rebounder in the game, but also the worst free-throw shooter in the history of the NBA.

The Detroit Pistons think they've found a solution for the latter. Fresh off signing the big man to a max contract, head coach Stan Van Gundy is expecting marked improvement in Drummond's success rate at the charity stripe.

"I'm really optimistic he's going to come back and shoot free throws a lot better," Van Gundy said at the center's re-introductory presser, as quoted by Rod Beard of The Detroit News.

Drummond was fifth in free-throw attempts last season with 586, but he only hit 208 of them. In his four campaigns, he's made just 38 percent of his 1,438 free throws - the lowest percentage of anyone in league history who's attempted that many. He's been working on it, and may have figured out how to resolve the issue.

"I just try different tactics," the 22-year-old said. "We've found something that works and we'll stick with it - you'll find out."

Last season, the first-time All-Star led the league in rebounding with 14.8 boards per game to go along with 16.2 points on 52.1 percent shooting, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks.
