Nets' Bogdanovic fled Turkey by boat during failed coup

Brooklyn Nets swingman Bojan Bogdanovic found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time last week, but managed to extricate himself from a potentially dangerous situation with the help of his agent and team officials from Greek basketball club Colossus Rhodes.

According to a report from Greek outlet sportfm.gr (as translated by Eurohoops), Bogdanovic was vacationing with his girlfriend in Turkey's Bodrum peninsula Friday night when a military coup broke out in the country. The uprising was suppressed relatively quickly, but not before nearly 300 people were reported killed and another 1,400 injured.

Once Bogdanovic got wind of what was happening, he made arrangements to leave the country. He and his girlfriend were spirited away on a boat, across the Aegean Sea, to the Greek island of Rhodes. The trip was arranged by his agent, in concert with two Colossus officials on the island: manager George Gkotzogiannis, and club board member Panagiotis Kounakis.

Bogdanovic, a Bosnian Croat, reportedly arrived safe in Rhodes after the hour-long boat trip from Bodrum, spent a few hours there, and then left for Croatian capital Zagreb. He's set to travel to Rio this week to prepare for the Olympics with the Croatian national team.
