Popovich doesn't care about 'superteam' label: 'I just count the championships'
There's been much ado about superteams in light of Kevin Durant's decision to join an already stacked Golden State Warriors team that notched an NBA record 73 wins this past season.
The San Antonio Spurs won 67 games, by the way, which is tied for the fourth-best regular-season record of all time. And yet, the Spurs haven't been in the superteam conversation.
Does that bother Pop?
"Naaaah," he told Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group. "I just count the championships."
Popovich, who's serving as an assistant coach with Team USA in Las Vegas, has won five championships with the Spurs over his 20-year tenure. He's accomplished the majority of that with the trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and the recently retired Tim Duncan.
If that's not super, I don't know what is.
