5 best American basketball players not in Brazil

The United States' latest basketball offering begins its quest for gold in Rio this evening, but it'd be difficult to say the Americans are putting their best foot forward considering these five notable omissions from the roster.
Stephen Curry
Pos: PG | Age: 28
2015-16 stats: 30.1 ppg, 6.7 apg, 5.1 3pm

Steph cited ankle and knee injuries when announcing he'd pass on the trip to Rio. Back-to-back Finals appearances have seen him play 198 games over the last two seasons.
Anthony Davis
Pos: PF | Age: 23
2015-16 stats: 24.3 ppg, 10.3 apg, 2.0 blkpg

The Brow underwent knee surgery in late March. Separate knee and shoulder injuries limited him to a career-low 61 games this past season.
LeBron James
Pos: SF | Age: 31
2015-16 stats: 25.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 6.8 apg

After reclaiming his throne in June, it's understandable the King would need a break from the court. Including the postseason, he's played in 97 games since Oct. 27.
Kawhi Leonard
Pos: SF | Age: 25
2015-16 stats: 21.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.8 stlpg

The two-time reigning defensive player of the year and All-NBA First Team selection withdrew his name from consideration in June. He's never suited up for USA Basketball.
Russell Westbrook
Pos: PG | Age: 27
2015-16 stats: 23.5 ppg, 10.4 apg, 7.8 rpg

With Kevin Durant departing Oklahoma City and trade rumors swirling, a trip to Rio would have made for far too hectic an offseason for Russ.
