Russell Westbrook renegotiating his contract to remain with the Thunder has given fans in Oklahoma City something to smile about following Kevin Durant's departure to sign with the enemy Golden State Warriors.
The news was made official Thursday with the organization announcing Westbrook inked a three-year extension reportedly worth $85 million that will carry through the 2018-19 season, with a player option in the final year.
Mick Cornett, the mayor of OKC, clearly loves his Thunder basketball, as the news of the five-time All-Star staying with the team was enough for him to proclaim Aug. 4, 2016 as "Russell Westbrook Day" in the city.
