LeBron pushes for Cavaliers to get deal done with Smith
It took a while, but the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James have come to terms on a new deal which will pay The King a reported $100 million over the next three seasons.
Since his contract is taken care of, James wants the Cavaliers to finish bringing the band back together by locking up J.R. Smith, who remains an unrestricted free agent.
Announcing to the world that he was remaining with the Cavaliers in a video on "Uninterrupted" Thursday evening, James ended his message by advocating for his teammate.
"Let's get J.R. done. It's that time," James said with a grin on his face.
Smith bet on himself in free agency last summer by opting out of his contract which would have paid him $6.4 million for the 2015-16 campaign. No one was willing to offer him more money, though, which is why he ultimately settled on a two-year deal with Cleveland where he earned just $5 million, along with a player option for the second year.
He started all 21 playoffs games for the Cavaliers en route to the team's first NBA title, averaging 11.5 points on 43.6 percent shooting and 43 percent from 3-point range, along with 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
