10-year-old Kris Humphries outswam Phelps, Lochte in '95
Atlanta Hawks big man Kris Humphries has scratched out a solid, if decidedly unspectacular, 12-year NBA career. But while he's had a respectable run on the hardwood, he once seemed primed to become one of the all-time greats in the pool.
As a 10-year-old in 1995, Humphries found himself swimming in the same age bracket as two future Olympic legends in Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps - the latter of whom is the most decorated Olympian in history (with 28 total medals and 23 golds).
Humphries dominated the age bracket that year, recording the nation's fastest times in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley.

Humphries also set three national records for his age bracket in 1995, two of which stood for over 18 years.
He ultimately opted to chase his basketball dreams instead of pursuing the sport he so excelled at as a preteen. And though making the NBA (let alone hanging around for over a decade) is a remarkable (and lucrative) achievement, one can't help but wonder if Humphries watched Phelps add five more gold medals to his tally last week in Rio and thought "what if?"
