Rivers: Ray Allen 'in top-5 shape in the NBA,' can still play

Ray Allen hasn't played in the NBA in two years, but apparently he's kept himself fit as a fiddle.

His former coach on the Boston Celtics, Doc Rivers, has been in touch with him this offseason.

While the current Los Angeles Clippers coach isn't sure if the 41-year-old will suit up professionally again, he wouldn't rule it out.

"I think if Ray was in the right spot he may play," the bench boss told reporters Tuesday, as quoted by ESPN's Chris Forsberg. "I think Ray wants to golf a lot, too, right now. But Ray is in amazing shape. I don't know how he does that.

"I didn't know how he does that as a player; I don't know how he does it as a non-player. He's probably in top-5 shape in the NBA. So could Ray play? Absolutely, I believe he could."

The two-time NBA champion, who's believed to still be a serviceable scorer, has reportedly been open to a comeback.

Regarded as one of the most dangerous sharpshooters in NBA history, Allen's the all-time leader in 3-pointers attempted (7,429) and made (2,973). He could be looking to further pad his advantage.

The 10-time All-Star boasts career averages of 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from long range over 18 campaigns.
