The Los Angeles Lakers made official Monday the hiring of Coby Karl as new coach of their D-League team.
Coby, the son of longtime NBA head coach George Karl, takes the reins of the Los Angeles D-Fenders after one season as an assistant with the New York Knicks' D-League squad.
Coby played three seasons in the NBA from 2007-10 with the Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors.
His father George was fired as coach of the Sacramento Kings in April. He remains in fifth place in all-time NBA coaching victories.
