Kerr: Warriors not worried about sacrifice, 'rather have the rings'

Despite chatter that certain players will need to "sacrifice" for Kevin Durant this season, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr doesn't foresee problems fitting the former MVP into his offense.

"That’s why I’m the coach, that’s the fun part, really," Kerr told reporters on Wednesday. "That’s why you have a coaching staff to lay the vision out, to talk to guys.

"It’s no different from talking to Andre (Iguodala) two summers ago, 'how do you feel about coming off the bench?' Now it’s 'hey, how do you feel about playing with this combination or that combination?'"

While the trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green will almost certainly see a decrease in shots, Kerr doesn't figure any of them will mind, believing his team is focused on one goal - winning.

"I hate the word "sacrifice" - when people talk about are guys going to have to sacrifice," he said. "Like, I don’t know, did Bosh and Wade really sacrifice when they played with LeBron? They won two rings. Is that a sacrifice?

"I’ll bet if you ask them they’d say they would much rather have the rings than have scored more points or gotten more shots. That’s the whole point."

The Warriors bench boss added that if the Warriors truly cared about their shot totals, they would've never recruited the four-time scoring champ in the first place.

"And our guys, the four guys who came to New York, who went to New York to see Kevin, I mean, they were his biggest recruiters," Kerr said. "They’re all smart players, they know the ball’s going to spread around a little bit, everybody’s numbers may not be where they were last year, who cares? It’s about winning."

Golden State will open camp next week in Oakland.
