Curry: 'I want to be back here'
While he's set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry isn't planning on leaving the Bay Area anytime soon.
"I want to be back here," Curry told reporters Tuesday. "I like playing here. And that's it."
Despite winning back-to-back MVPs, Curry ranks as just the 79th highest-paid player this season as a result of negotiating his current contract prior to the new CBA. While next year's cap isn't official, Curry will likely command a salary of close to $30 million per year - a contract that could force Golden State to say farewell to one or two of its key players.
Like Curry, Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston are set to become unrestricted free agents next summer, and could potentially leave Golden State should Curry choose to sign a max deal. Kevin Durant also has a player option for next season, and could create more cap problems if he opts out and then re-signs for a higher figure.
In 79 games this past season, Curry averaged 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 steals, shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 45.4 percent from beyond the arc.
