Cavaliers sign Toney Douglas, waive Eric Moreland
The Cleveland Cavaliers announced the signing of point guard Toney Douglas on Monday.
In a related move, center Eric Moreland was waived.
With the offseason departures of Matthew Dellavedova (to Milwaukee) and Mo Williams (to retirement), the Cavaliers were woefully thin at point guard behind oft-injured star Kyrie Irving. Adding Douglas gives Cleveland a third point guard to slot in behind Irving and rookie guard Kay Felder.
The 6-foot-2 Douglas has bounced around six teams during his seven years in the league. He profiles as a capable ball-handler and a reliable spot-up threat.
Last season, Douglas filled in admirably for an injury-plagued New Orleans Pelicans side by averaging 8.7 points and 2.6 assists in 20.7 minutes per game. He also knocked down 39.9 percent of his threes.
